Owun – 2.5

Fragment. Nothing Will Ever Be The Same LP
Owun is a three piece band from Grenoble, France. Their new album is titled ”2,5”. Released about a month ago, this album includes nine tracks. The band’s music is mainly a mixture of noise rock, post punk and dark wave. These guys have been around for more than twenty years and they certainly know their game. I’ve never listened to an album by Owun before in the past. However i will admit that ”2,5” is an album that’s definitely welcome. Its experimental and provocative nature triggered a subconscious need of mine that made me want to listen to this album and explore its hidden secrets. In my opinion ”2,5” has many cool moments. I personally liked most of the songs. One song i’d like to single out though is ”Orange”, namely the album’s seventh song. This is a beautiful track and that’s hands down. These nine songs form an album that can be described as intriguing and daring if you will. So the question is, what do i think about this album? I surely loved the album’s ambience as well as its diversified character and i have to say i’m definitely down with it. Therefore i’d like to recommend it. Recommended for fans of Killing Joke, Sonic Youth, Swans, e.t.c.

Buioingola – Il Nuovo Mare

Buioingola is a three piece band from Viareggio, Italy. ”Il Nuovo Mare” (italian for ”the new sea’) is their new album. It will be released on march 31. Never before had i heard of this band in the past. If someone knows the correct pronunciation of the band’s name then he can leave a comment in the comment section or send us a message. So, yes i’m what you might call a newcomer to this band.

A thing that made a big impression on me is the album’s cover artwork. I mean it looks like a gigantic engine coming out of a deep dark sea. One thing i said to myself is ”this has to be good”. Seven tracks are included in this release. All lyrics are written in italian. However, as we have said so many times through this page music is an international language. Buioingola’s music is an exciting blend of many different styles. I feel rather unable to describe their sound. It would be perhaps wrong and pointless trying to categorize their sound. Genres come and go. Creativity is what matters. And, yes creativity is the case here. I would describe ”Il Nuovo Mare” as trully addictive. I can’t seem to get enough of this album. I got trapped inside this dark abyss and i simply can’t get out. This album is cold, so damn cold. Well, i’m a bit lost for words here. I loved their His Hero Is Gone type vocals along with their stone cold riffs. I also loved how inspired this album sounds. I love their approach on heavy sound. It’s been some while since someone has done someting like that. I would also like to comment on the album’s experimental nature. It seems to me that these guys were not afraid to experiment at all. And definitely the result has payed them off. I am not going to pick a favourite song here and that’s because i loved all seven of them. You must experience this album. Feel the lyricism and it’s dark beauty.

”Il Nuovo Mare” is an excellent album and that’s hands down. I have not heard an album like that for some time now. I loved it and i simply want to share my enthusiasm for this album. I ‘d easily give it a 9 out of 10. Before i end this review i’d like to address the band. I really hope this is not your swansong.

Sterilizer – Sterilizer

Hello everyone. Today i want to share some thoughts of mine about this album i’ ve been listening to lately. This album is called ”Sterilizer”. The band is also called Sterilizer. Well, it’s actually a one man project. All tracks were written, recorded mixed & mastered by Brandon Duncan. This album was released on the 21st of October. What caught my attention here, first of all, is the album’s front cover. That dark figure on the front impelled me to check this one out. It seemed that some dark shit was going on in this album. Well i have to admit that after listening to it for some times, this album seems to me like a guilty pleasure. Let me explain myself. Eight tracks can be found in this album. In my attempt to describe the album’s sound i would then say that it’s a blend of industrial, metal, and E.B.M. It’s also an instrumental album. But i think this album is structured in a certain way where the absence of lyrics is not a problem at all. There are no lyrics of course, since this is an instrumental album, but if you look at the tracks’ names you’ ll see that this is more of a concept album. It has a story to tell. In my mind there are lines like ”this album will take you on a trip in the darkest depths of hell”, and other cheesy stuff. But the way i see it, this album is a hell of a ride. Just let yourself get sank into it. Listen to those awesome drum beats, and those sharp hellish riffs. I had a really hard time, trying to decide which track here is my favorite one. But i would have to say that it’s ”Discontent”. Great track in my opinion. Everything seems to have fallen into place here. Beats, samples, guitars, you’ ll love ’em all. So to sum up, i would definitely have to say that i quite enjoyed this one. Specially recommended for fans of Ministry, Godflesh and Front Line Assembly. Nevertheless i think that black metal fans are going to like this one as well. Well, just listen to it and find out for yourself. Links:

Atriarch – An Unending Pathway

Today we have some mind-blowing stuff for you. Basically what i’ m going to do is to start from the end and say that this the album of the month without any doubt. Also it’s one of the most interesting and intriguing releases i’ ve listened to in a long time. Let me explain myself. Atriarch is a four piece band from Portland, Oregon, U..S. Their music could be described as avant – garde metal. Or you describe it perhaps as a blend of black metal, doom/sludge metal and some post punk/dark wave. ”An Unpending Pathway” is the band’s newest release. It was released on October 27.
Seven tracks are included in this album. Seven extremely heavy tracks form a nightly dark madrigal. The band’s sound in my opinion sounds definitely original and fresh. Black metal is an important part of their music. But i wouldn’t say that it’s the most important. It’s like they’ ve taken the black metal sound, change its pieces dramatically to reshape in a whole different way. For example check out ”Collapse” and ”Revenant”, the album’s second and third track. You might trace some Ved Buens Ende in their music. Plus a lot of awesome riffs can be found, making their music sound really epic. Speaking of epicness one cannot miss to notice their singer’s vocals. Both his clean and harsh vocals are awesome. In certain parts he sounds a bit like Attila Csihar. I really enjoyed him singing in ”Rot”. A sludgy/ dark masterpiece in my opinion. ”Veil” has been number one track of my current tracklist, and i think it will stay there for a long. Perhaps the album’s best track in my opinion.
So to sum up i would have to say that this is an excellent album. I think that the band has raised the bar really high for themselves with this one. Well that is the impression that i’ ve got. Recommended for all doom and black metal fans. Links:
