If disappointment had a name then that would be Trainspotting 2. Many people, including myself, had really high expectations for this film. I mean, the cast was great, ”Porno” is a rather good book, Danny Boyle once again was going to be the film director. What could go wrong? The answer is many things. So what i did was go to the nearest multiplex, grab some pop corn and some coke and just wait for the movie to start. The theater was half full mainly by forty year olds. I guess these guys went to see the movie driven mainly by nostalgia. The truth is the same happened with me as well. After all Trainspotting was a great film. Many people had Trainspotting posters in their house. And who can forget Trainspotting’s soundtrack? That was certainly an album full of great songs.
Trainspotting 2 from the beginning was a rather weird experience. Why did it had to have so many references on the first movie? Why on earth did it look so uninspired and flat? It was as if Danny Boyle had ran out of ideas and said ”You know what? That’s what you’re simply gonna get”. I realize it was not an easy task to make a better movie than the first one but i caught myself feeling really bored and tired especially during the last thirty movies. I had to admit i liked the music of this film though. To be honest that was the only thing i really liked. I don’t think a third part would be a good idea. Let’s just leave Mark and his friends simply go own with their lives.
”Gimme Danger” is a 2016 documentary film about one of the greatest and most influential rock n’ roll bands of all time, namely The Stooges. Directed by Jim Jarmusch this film will wanna make you bang your head and dance like Iggy, although no one can really dance like him. I personally loved it so i’d like to recommend it.
We all like the movies. Personally i love Tarantino and Scorsese movies but i’m down with comedies as well. For example i’ve seen all Monty Python movies, sketches, e.t.c so many times that i almost remember most of the lines on each movie. Music movies or movies about your favorite bands and artists is something else though. It’s when you get to know stuff about your favorite band that you didn’t know before. In some cases it’s when artists decide to share some of the magic.
What i’m going to do today is give you my ten favorite music films. Some of them you may have already seen, some of them not. Anyways, here it goes. Movies go in no significant order.
Until the light takes us (2008)
A documentary about the norwegian, black metal scene and things that happened in Norway back in the early 90’s. Perhaps the best film you can find about black metal. Aaron Aites rest in peace.
24 Hour party people (2002)
1976, June the fourth. Sex Pistols play Manchester for the very first time. Here’s a film about punk rock, how bands evolved through time and how they influenced other bands.
Walk the line (2005)
Here’s a film about the great Johnny Cash. Starring Joaquin Pheonix who by the way made an amazing performance.
The man, the myth, the legend: Ian Lemmy Kilmister
The Song remains the same (1976)
One of my favorite films of all time. A documentary of a Led Zeppelin tour mixed with live music, a bizarre fantasy, and interviews with those involved with the band.
Anvil: The Story of Anvil (2008)
Sometimes things don’t go the way you planned them. Nevertheless you must always follow your dreams.
Grindcore – 85 Minutes of brutal heavy metal (2003)
A documentary about grindcore, death metal and other exciting stuff. Check it out.
This is Spinal Tap (1984)
Hands down, this is one great movie.
Detroit Rock City
You can’t go wrong with Kiss.
South Park: Bigger, longer & uncut (1999)
Well, this is more of a musical but still a great movie.
Two days ago me and my friends from Tzertzelos deciced to go to the movies to see Star Wars. As usual they were late so i decided to light a cigarette and then buy some pop corn and a coke. The dude that gave me my pop corn must had joined the dark side because that was the worst pop corn i’ve ever eaten. Finally the rest of the Tzertzelos crew came so went to take our seats. It is widely known what Star Wars means to modern pop culture. I think there are very few people who cannot identify Darth Vader. Six films have been filmed. ”The Force awakens” is the seventh movie of the Star Wars cosmos. The story takes place approximately thirty years after the death of Darth Vader. Something evil lurks in the universe. It is actually called First Order. Some bad guys do not get along with the other dudes from the Resistance and want to bring ”order” to what they consider to be a chaotic situation. The person thought to be responsible for this chaos (according to the first order) is Luke Skywalker. Meanwhile the dudes from the resistance are trying to locate Luke Skywalker to help them fight this new evil force. So why did Luke disappear? I’m not sure. Did he want to get away from it all? Did he got dissapointed because his nephew is a total douche? Can’t really say. I must say though for me this is not a movie. This is more of a product if you will. An attempt to re-launch the star wars brand name and increase the sales. That’s what i got from this film. Don’t get me wrong. It was not a bad movie but it wasn’t something special either. Certainly the die hard Star Wars fans are going to like this film. I liked the fact that the original Luke Skywaker, Princess Leia and Han Solo reappered. And certainly you’ll like the new immense death star whith its huge laser gun. But enough with the spoilers. Personally i didn’t like at all the new Darth Vader called Kailo Ren (or something like that ) and lord Snok. I mean what the fuck was that? Also i didn’t get that thing with r2d2. What happenened there? Anyways, the thing is this was an ok film for me but i have the sense that Quentin Tarantino’s new movie is going to be better.
So what i did was to go and see the new Dracula film. Yes, ladies and gentlemen. A new Dracula film. Now, who would have thought that this might happen again? I think i’ ve lost count of how many Dracula films there are out there. Or how many batman or godzilla movies. It seems to me that Hollywood producers have run out of ideas. The story of Dracula is pretty much known. He was king of Wallachia and later king. He fought against the emerging Ottoman Empire. Nevertheless his reign is described as ruthless and authoritative and he also used to impose his will by using inhuman methods such as impaling. He persecuted the Saxons of Transylvania, and they described him in the west in such a way, where centuries later Bram Stoker read these stories and created the semimythological figure of count dracula. We’ ve seen Dracula portrayed in many ways. Decades ago Cristopher Lee used to scare the shit out of people by playing Dracula. Years later Gary Oldman played Dracula. I think most people would agree that Copola’ s Dracula is the best one so far. The other film about Dracula, where Monster Magnet also slightly appeared, i think it was crap. Really bad movie. On the the 2014 film ”Dracula Untold” Luke Evans is starring as Vlad the Impaler. As for the plot; Vlad is trying desperately to save his kingdom from the Turks. And he also wants to avoid fighting with them because he is heavily outnumbered. But when things become really bad for him he decidedes to act. He takes the crucial decision to join sides with a really dark force that dwells in a mountain in Romania. So the thing is that Vlad becomes some sort of a super hero that now has the ability of doing unimaginable things. But it’s a power with a certain costI think that now we have a new super hero. Dracula. Perhaps Marvel Comics should consider of creating a new character. Well that’s the impression that i’ve got. Of a super hero action movie. I can’t say that i didn’t enjoy the movie. But when the movie ended, fifteen minutes later i had forgotten pretty much everything. None of the actors of this movie will be oscar nominees. Nevertheless this film will provide you with ninety minutes of fun and action. But there also other ways of spending five euros. You can support your favorite band by buying their album for example.
