Please introduce your band. When was the band formed?
Black Tar Prophet formed in 2011. We are a 2 piece sludge metal band. We are based in Nashville, Tennessee.
Can you tell us about your main influences?
Old sludge, 90s Death and Black metal for the most part.
What inspires you the most?
Heaviness and anger.
How would you define your sound?
Loud and raw on the distorted tone and drums.
What made you form an instrumental band?
It was partially accidental. We always have used sound bits throughout songs. It just fit at the time. So we never sought out for a vocalist. Unless we chose to use a guest vocalist. As we’ve done in the past on a track titled “Sentenced”.
Last year you released a split album with Iron Gavel. How did this collaboration take place?
We met Iron Gavel at a show in Pittsburgh, on tour in 2014. They are cool guys. We drank with them, and they hooked it up with Broken Limbs Recordings. Also they put on a great live set.
Are there any thoughts for a full length album?
Currently we have 2 LPs out. We plan on recording the 3rd this summer. To be released winter 2017/2018.
At this point I’d like to ask both of you to give us your favorite album of 2016.
Greg-Dark Funeral- Where Shadows Forever Reign/ Erik– Desaster-The Oath Of An Iron Ritual
Any live shows planned for this year?
Maryland Doom Fest (Frederick, Maryland) June 24th.
What does the future hold for Black Tar Prophet?
More albums, More tours.
