Please introduce your band. When was the band formed?

Insect Radio was formed in the summer of 2013. We released our debut album “We are Trouble” in 2015 in digital form and in 2016 in physical form. We play hardcore punk. The band is consisted from Giorgos (vocals), Labis (guitars), Ilias (bass) and Alex (drums).

Can you tell us about your main influences?

Can’t say exactly, because the way we write music is a result of all the different genres we’ve listened to during the last 20-25 years. Let’s say that music or, better, art as a whole to its extreme function is our main influence. To make it easier though we can add the names of a few bands such as Converge, Slayer, Dead Kennedys, Retox, Bad Brains, Fugazi, Refused.

How would you define your sound?

Aggressive, direct, sharp, edgy, complex.

How is music produced in Insect Radio?

Usually the case would be that Labis brings a fairly thought out set of ideas, which we then build upon and mould into a structured song.

Last year you released your debut album ‘’We Are Trouble’’. How did the recording sessions go and how has the reception been so far?

We recorded the songs live in a couple of days after which Giorgos layered the vocals. The whole thing (recording, mixing etc.) took less than a week. The reception has been more than satisfying so far and we can’t wait to release our new stuff.

What inspires you the most?

Nothing specific. It could be a person, a situation, a film, a painting or a book. Anything that fucks with our heads.

What’s your favorite album of 2016?

I can name a few: Death Grips “Bottomless Pit”, David Bowie “Black Star”, Nails “You will never be one of us”, A Tribe Called Quest “We got it from here…”, Whores “Gold”. Also, we got great albums from greek bands in 2016 like Ruined Families, Tardive Dyskinesia, Sarabante, Blame Kandinsky, Borderline Syndrome, Friend of Gods.

Any live shows planned for 2017?

We’ve scheduled a Euro-Balkan tour (“Elevating the Swarm tour”) due late February to early March. It’s the first time we will jump the van and play outside of Greece and it’s pretty exciting!  We’ll probably do a smaller Greek tour later in May.

What does the future hold for Insect Radio?

We’re neck deep in new material preparation for our upcoming album. Once that is over and done with, we’ll book as many shows as we can to play our new stuff to people.
