Interview with Overpain

Hello! Please introduce your band. When was the band formed?

Hello! Overpain is a four piece, hardcore band from Thessaloniki, Greece, formed back in 2007.

Can you tell us about your main influences?

We all listen to many different things but our main influence is of course hardcore and the whole spectre of this music and ideology.

Many hardcore bands have worked with hip hop artists. Sick Of It All for example have collaborated with Krs One for a song. Would you ever work with a hip hop artist?

We would gladly do something like that but it wasn’t and it is not our priority. It may happen in the future.

Living in Greece, as a band, how much would you say you’ ve affected by this ongoing financial crisis?

With or without a crisis, there aren’t really many opportunities for a hardcore band in Greece. It takes a lot of effort, patience and persistence to do things especially when there’s no money to work with. To be honest we were always lacking on money. The point is if you want this and how much you want it, then a new chapter unfolds and i’m not talking about making money or becoming known to a bigger audience. But through this music to transfer daily life vibes to people from other places of this world.

A few months ago you released ‘’Lifeweight’’ ep. Is there a concept behind this album you would like to discuss?

Speaking for myself  i’d say it’s one of our best releases so far. I’d call it mature, furious and murky. The album’s lyrics are deep and raw. ‘’Lifeweight’’ as a title came from weight classes in fighting sports. It talks about daily struggles in this world from my point of view and experiences.

In your first album ‘’Underrated – Overhated’’ you had many guest vocals. How did these collaborations come up?

I always liked having guest vocals from people/ bands that I like in my band. I looked up, I found, I talked with them, they accepted and the rest is history.

What inspires you the most?

Everything is inspirational in this world. Positive and negative things. Realistic and fictionary stuff.

What are you listening to these days? Any bands you would like to recommend?

Lately I’ve been listening to bands like Afflictive Nature, Forced Order, Dementor, Blistered, Seeing Red and Deadringer. There’s always gonna be also another 1000 + bands that you can listen to.

Do you have any live shows planned for Greece or abroad?

We played all our planned live shows for now. We’ re talking for a possible tour. We’ll see when and where it will take place.

What does the future hold for Overpain?

New material for sure. Perhaps a split album with a band from abroad or from Greece.
