Cult of Luna don’t really need an introduction. The swedish band has been in the game for almost twenty years, releasing many great albums (like ”Somewhere along the highway” and ”Eternal Kingdom”). On April 8 they released their new album ”Mariner”. Cult of Luna is one of our favorite bands here in Tzertzelos so we had to say some words about it.
”Mariner” is a collaborative album between the band and vocalist Julie Christmas (ex Made out of Babies, ex Battle of Mice). For today’s review i wanted to do something slightly different. Apart from giving my own opinion i asked three good friends of mine who are also Cult of Luna fans to give us their own opinions as well. L does not write for Tzertzelos but he was quite clear about ”Mariner”. He used to be a big Battle of Mice fan so he really loved the idea of the band working with Julie Christmas. He liked the album, calling it another great album by Cult Of Luna but not their best one. As for a favorite track, he said that ”Cygnus” was an easy choice. Kaze, who also writes for Tzertzelos, was like me quite eager to listen to the new Cult of Luna album. He loved how Julie Christmas’s voice blends with the band’s music. As for a best song, he picked ”A greater call”, describing it as a rather catchy song that sticks to your head. K told me that in this album Cult of Luna sound more mature than ever. He also said that once again the band delivered an album of really good written songs, with ”Chevron” being his favorite one. Personally i have to say i generally agree with the three above. As for a favorite track i still haven’t made up my mind. I’m between ”Cygnus” and ”A greater call”.
In my opinion, the band once again delivered. ”Mariner” is a really good album. Perhaps not their best album but certainly one of their best albums. I have the impression that all Cult of Luna fans are gonna love it. Before i conclude this review i would like to thank my friends for their input. Check out these links:
