Interview with Black Blood

Please introduce your band. When was the band formed?

We are Black Blood from Helsinki, Finland. We play heavy metal. The Band was formed in summer of 2010 and we’ve played a lot of gigs since. Also we’ve made 1 EP and we just released our debute album. Heikki has the lead vocals, Jukka-Pekka plays the guitar and does vocals too,  Lauri is on the Bass and Ilkka is behind the drums.

This may be a bit of a chiche question, but can you tell us about your main influences?

Jukkis: Maybe Clutch, Slayer, Black Sabbath, Pantera would be the ones if I have to pick.

Lauri: Pantera, Slayer, HellYeah and Dimmu Borgir.

Heikki: Therapy?Gwar,Iron Maiden,Body Count,Anthrax and Pantera were probably biggest influences as a kid. Skateboarding, graffiti, friends,Family, partying and a not giving a fuck attitude is also always very influencing thing.

Ilkka: Recently i’ve taken a lot of influence from bands like Orange Goblin, Clutch and other a bit more groovy bands, but i try to keep busy from practicing some more faster stuff, like Revocation or Lamb Of God.

How would you define your sound?

Stoner-Heavy-Metal. Heavy and groovy stuff basically, but we try not to limit our sound. Most of our songs are results of jamming, so the results vary a lot.

Last year you released your debut, full length album. How has the reception been so far?

Yeah, a long process but very rewarding in the end. The feedback we get is very positive in general which is nice of course. Awesome to hear that people, other than ourselves, like what we are doing.

Any particular concept behind ‘’Black Blood’’ you would like to discuss?

We haven’t thought about it that much, really. The songs we write usually are inspired by all the shit that people have to go through in their lives and some maybe try to act as a message for people to rise up against all the difficulties that this life throws at them. Let’s see what kind of mess this planet is going to get into first.

What inspires you the most?

Alcohol, Friends, Bullshit, Speed, Aggression, Rock and Heavy Metal.

What are you listening to these days?

Heikki says Steel Panther, Lauri listens Slayer and Pantera, Jukkis says Bombus mostly recently and Ilkka says Orange Goblin’s back to the abyss and the new Anthrax album.

Any live shows planned for this year?

We got a gig in Tampere in two weeks and a couple more gigs in april. One in Tallin 13.5. and the next day in Helsinki. Also a couple more shows that are on the planning stage for this spring.

What does the future hold for Black Blood?

This year we are going to play as many gigs as possible and write new songs for the upcoming album. If all goes well we’ll start recording the album in 2017 and after that… Who knows? A lot of rocking and headbanging most likely!
